Title A name given to the resource Revista Politécnica Año 1, Nº1 Description An account of the resource PROPÓSITOS Y ASPIRACIONES Desde la fundación de "La Línea Recta"hace ya más de 6 años fué una aspiración general, casi diríamos una necesidad sentida, publicar una revista que, siendo útil a los asociados, pues admitiría las cuestiones relacionadas más o menos directamente con el estudio de la Ingeniería, se dedicara con mayor especialidad a promover y amparar la iniciativa personal. Nace hoy con grardes esperanzas, es cierto, pero no tiene, en cambio, pretensión alguna y si es positivo que todos los primeros pasos han de ser difíciles y costosos, también lo es que no se pueden crear gigantes y por tanto, que no se hallará en sus primeros números, esa nitidez acabada que es el fruto del tiempo y de la perseverancia. Recorriendo sus páginas, tal vez no se encuentren artículos académicos como los de Montalembert., ó literarios como los de Chateaubriand, que la locuacidad suele ser estéril é ineficaz, pero serán más prácticos, más fundamentales, cual es dable exigir á cultivadores de las ciencias puras. Como los hombres jóvenes que carecen de estilo, no tiene programa: solo se lo podrán formar la experiencia y la observación. Sin embargo, tiene ideales elevados. Y aunque no es más que un esbozo, un simple precedente, digamos, servirá sin duda de pedestal á su futuro desarrollo si la incuria y el abandono los enemigos más irreconciliables del progreso y el trabajo, no la hacen langidecer u olvidar. Varias publicaciones del género aparecen en el país; no pretenderemos sobrepasarlas desde el primer número, pero esperamos, sin que ello pueda parecer una utópica quimera o exageración sentimental, alcanzarlas pronto y aún superarlas, si es que la voluntad y la consagración de algo valen. Creemos innecesario agregar que la Redacción se complace en poner á la disposición de los Sres. Profesores, Ingenieros y estudiantes de matemáticas, las columnas de este Periódico, sea para dar cabida a estudios originales, sea para abrirlas a la discusión. LA REDACCIÓN.
