En la presente memoria se describe el desarrollo de un simulador de un bus CAN, que permite interactuar con uno físico, para la simulación de escenarios con hardware in the loop.
Este tipo de simulación es aplicable para el desarrollo de sistemas embebidos industriales, incluidos los sistemas aeroespaciales.
El trabajo se realizó con INVAP S.E. y se aplicaron conocimientos de arquitecturas de software, modularización del software, sistemas operativos de tiempo real, protocolos de comunicación, hilos y máquina de estados finito.

En la presente memoria se describe una investigación sobre el uso de redes neuronales para simular la iluminación en escenas tridimensionales. El objetivo fue evaluar si estos modelos pueden reemplazar total o parcialmente losmétodos tradicionales, motivado por su potencial para reducir el uso de memoria y el tiempo de cálculo. Se analizaron distintas variantes del modelo y se compararon sus resultados con técnicas convencionales. Durante el desarrollo se aplicaron conocimientos de aprendizaje profundo, computación gráfica, análisis matemático y visión por computadora. Los resultados indican que este enfoque constituye una alternativa válida para representar la iluminación desde distintos puntos de vista.

El presente trabajo consistió en la simulación de rocas lunares usando imágenes e información proveniente del archivo de las diferentes misiones APOLO de la NASA. Se propone una metodología para la obtención de objetos tridimensionales a partir de imágenes bidimensionales con datasets limitados, sin requerir la inclusión de mallas o nube de puntos. El trabajo se desarrolló en el marco de la residencia artística “Artist in Residence - summer 2022” en el laboratorio DGP (Dynamic Graphics Project) de la University of Toronto. Los conocimientos adquiridos durante la carrera fueron fundamentales para llevar a cabo este trabajo. En particular, fue esencial el uso de técnicas de detección de bordes como el algoritmo de Canny, el conocimiento de la arquitectura de Redes Neuronales Generativas Adversarias condicionales (cGAN por sus siglas en inglés), técnicas de data augmentation, entrenamiento de redes neuronales, métodos de ajuste de hiper parámetros y procesos de inferencia para cGANs.

Se utilizan mediciones reales correspondientes a 25 meses de producción de un pozo horizontal con 13 etapas de fractura, en función de los datos publicados en la Secretaría de Energía de la Nación. Para lograr que los resultados de la simulación se comporten en forma análoga a los datos de campo se toman como parámetros de ajuste, los valores de permeabilidad y volumen de la zona estimulada. Así, el simulador numérico obtiene caudales y volúmenes acumulados que se condicen con la información real, logrando un buen ajuste a la historia de producción con lo que el modelo está preparado para pasar a la etapa de predicción de EUR (recuperación final estimada).

La exploración y producción de reservorios no convencionales ha surgido como una oportunidad para satisfacer la demanda de hidrocarburos, acelerando así el desarrollo científico y tecnológico en varias áreas de las geociencias, en particular prospección geofísica, que contribuyen tanto al entendimiento del reservorio no convencional como a la caracterización de la geometría y evolución de fractura hidráulica. Los reservorios no convencionales se caracterizan por presentar (respecto de los convencionales) un alto grado de anisotropía, es decir la variación de sus propiedades físicas con la dirección considerada. Por otro lado, dentro de las tecnologías de seguimiento de la evolución de la fractura hidráulica, la tecnología microsísmica es una herramienta útil; sin embargo, debido a su bajo grado de sensibilidad al fluido en poro, no es del todo efectiva en la determinación del volumen de reservorio estimulado, cantidad importante para el evaluar la efectividad de la terminación del pozo y planificar el desarrollo del yacimiento. En estos dos aspectos, los métodos electromagnéticos pueden jugar un importante rol. El objetivo entonces es simular y estudiar la respuesta electromagnética generada al realizar operaciones de fractura hidráulica en un reservorio no convencional. Esto requiere por un lado estudiar su evolución dinámica y por otro lado estudiar el efecto de la anisotropía eléctrica en diferentes escenarios geológicamente plausibles antes, durante y después de la operación de fractura. Con este objetivo en mente, para obtener la solución aproximada de las ecuaciones de Maxwell se han construido simuladores 2D y 3D bajo un método de elementos finitos mixto en tiempo basado en elementos conformes de Nédélec para la discretización espacial y paso de tiempo leapfrog para la discretización en tiempo. Además, se provee un análisis de estabilidad numérica de dicho método numérico. Los resultados indican que la señal electromagnética, de largo período, está en el rango medible y las conclusiones se centran en el valor agregado de los métodos electromagnéticos a la determinación del volumen de reservorio estimulado y a la respuesta de cada campo eléctrico y magnético a cada escenario anisotrópico propuesto. En base a esta respuesta se define la sensibilidad de los campos a la configuración transmisor-receptor, la sensibilidad de los campos a la ubicación de los receptores y la sensibilidad de los campos al tipo de anisotropía o discriminación entre dos tipos de anisotropía. Finalmente, si bien se ha estudiado esta aplicación a reservorios hidrocarburíferos no convencionales, el análisis tiene aplicación a problemas de recuperación secundaria y a otro tipo de yacimientos caracterizados por la dinámica hidrogeológica de rocas anisotrópicas saturadas con salmueras como pueden ser los yacimientos de litio.
The exploration and production of unconventional reservoirs has emerged as an opportunity to satisfy the demand for hydrocarbons, thus accelerating scientific and technological developments in various areas of geosciences, in particular geophysical prospecting, which contributes to the understanding of the unconventional reservoir and to the characterization of the geometry and evolution of hydraulic fracturing. The unconventional reservoirs are characterized by presenting (with respect to conventional ones) a high degree of anisotropy, that is, the variation of their physical properties with the direction considered. On the other hand, within the technologies for monitoring the evolution of hydraulic fracturing, microseismic technology is a useful tool. However, due to its low degree of sensitivity to pore fluid, it is not very effective to determine the stimulated reservoir volume, which is an important quantity to evaluate the effectiveness of the completion of the well and plan the development of the reservoir. In these two aspects, the electromagnetic techniques might play an important role. The objective is to simulate and to study the electromagnetic response generated when performing hydraulic fracturing operations in an unconventional reservoir. This requires, on one hand, to study its dynamic evolution and, on the other hand, to study the effect of electrical anisotropy in different geologically plausible scenarios before, during and after the fracture operation. With this objective in mind, to obtain the approximate solution of Maxwell's equations, 2D and 3D simulators have been built under a time-mixed finite element method based on Nédélec conformal elements for spatial discretization and leapfrog time step for discretization in time. In addition, a numerical stability analysis of this numerical method is provided. The results indicate that the long-term electromagnetic signal is in the measurable range and the conclusions focus on the added value of electromagnetic methods to the determination of the stimulated reservoir volume and to the response of the different electric and magnetic fields to each anisotropic scenario. Based on this response, the sensitivity of the fields to the transmitter-receiver configuration, the sensitivity of the fields to the location of the receivers, and the sensitivity of the fields to the type of anisotropy or discrimination between two types of anisotropy are defined. Finally, although this application has been studied for unconventional hydrocarbon reservoirs, the analysis has application to waterflooding problems and to other types of reservoirs characterized by the hydrogeological dynamics of anisotropic rocks saturated with brines, such as lithium reservoirs.

En la actualidad, cerca del 97% de la producción mundial de acero se realiza mediante el proceso de colada continua. Entre los distintos tipos de máquinas de colada existentes, las máquinas curvas reúnen ventajas en cuanto a su productividad y facilidad de evacuación. Como contrapartida, la barra debe someterse a un proceso de enderezado. En esta Tesis, se desarrolla una metodología para determinar riesgos de fisuración en el enderezado de barras de acero de sección circular, campo en el cual existen pocos antecedentes. La metodología desarrollada consiste en una simulación térmica de barras en solidificación, seguida de un modelo mecánico que calcula tensiones y deformaciones en cada punto de la barra. Estos resultados alimentan criterios de falla que permiten cuantificar riesgos de fisuración interna y superficial. Se llevan a cabo ensayos de laboratorio para ajustar el criterio de fisuración superficial, los cuales muestran que los aceros aleados (particularmente al Nb) presentan un pozo de ductilidad más amplio y profundo. Se desarrolla, además, una formulación para el enderezado continuo basada en la minimización de la variación de la curvatura de la barra, apta para ser aplicada en nuevos diseños o modificaciones de máquinas existentes. Las configuraciones de enderezado continuo muestran una transición más suave que las de radios discretos, medida en términos de la velocidad de deformación. Por último, se contrastan los resultados de la metodología descrita con índices de defecto efectivamente relevados en plantas industriales, con el fin de evaluar la predictibilidad del modelo. En todos los casos, la ocurrencia y la ubicación de las fisuras concuerda con los resultados de las simulaciones. La metodología desarrollada en esta Tesis se ha utilizado para evaluar escenarios de incremento de productividad, mejoras en la calidad del producto final, reducción de costos de producción y determinación de ventanas operativas en distintas acerías.
Nowadays, about 97% of the world’s steel is produced through the continuous casting process. Among the different types of existing casters, curved machines have advantages in terms of productivity and ease of evacuation. In return, the bar must undergo a straightening process. In this Thesis, a methodology is developed in order to determine cracking risk in the straightening of round bars, a field in which there is little background. The developed methodology consists of a thermal simulation of the casting strand, followed by a mechanical model that calculates stresses and strains at each point of the bar. These results feed failure criteria in order to calculate internal and surface cracking risks. Laboratory tests are carried out in order to adjust the surface cracking criterion, which show a broader and deeper ductility trough for Nb-alloyed steels. In addition, a formulation for continuous straightening is developed, based on minimizing the curvature variation of the bar, suitable to be applied in new designs or modifications of existing casters. Continuous straightening configurations show a smoother transition than discrete radii layouts, measured in terms of strain rate. Finally, the results of the described methodology are compared against defect rates actually surveyed in industrial plants, in order to assess the predictability of the model. In every case, the occurrence and location of the cracks agree with the results of the simulations. The methodology developed in this Thesis has been used to evaluate scenarios of productivity increase, quality improvement in the final product, reduction of production costs and determination of operating windows in different steel mills.

El diseño y explotación de satélites monolíticos para misiones de Observación de la Tierra (EO) ha sido, y es, un área fundamental de las innovaciones y logros históricos de la Comisión Nacional de Actividades Espaciales (CONAE). Por mencionar sólo algunos ejemplos de satélites, citamos: SAC-C para observación óptica, SAC-D/Aquarius en microondas, más recientemente, la constelación de Radares de Apertura Sintética (SAR) SAOCOM para observación en banda-L y, próximamente, la inminente misión de observación multi-espectral SABIA-Mar. Actualmente, la CONAE dedica esfuerzos al desarrollo, diseño e implementación de futuros Sistemas Satelitales Distribuidos de Vuelo en Formación (FF-DSS) con control de orbitas absolutas relativas en tiempo real y en forma autónoma (sin intervención del segmento terrestre). Este nuevo paradigma permite la adquisición de nuevos datos espaciales para uso científico que no resultaban factibles con arquitecturas monolíticas. En efecto, dos satélites volando en formación cercana hacen posible una adquisición coordinada y simultánea (en una sola pasada) de datos multi-estáticos en tierra, y hace posible la producción, entre otras, de: a) datos SAR multi-estáticos altamente coherentes con aplicaciones a: tomografía, interferometría, modelos digitales de elevación, super-resolución, etcétera; b) datos SAR ópticos/térmicos de correlación cruzada adquiridos en una sola escena; c) estereoscopía óptica y en microondas. Además, desde el punto de vista de ingeniería, aporta: a) redundancia y flexibilidad para mitigar los riesgos imprevistos durante las fases de diseño; b) reducción de los plazos de desarrollo; c) unidades de satélite modulares, miniaturizadas y reemplazables; d) liberación de recursos técnicos y humanos en las estaciones terrestres de operación y monitoreo de misión; e) si se las combina con plataformas monolíticas, las pueden complementar aumentando sus capacidades de observación y procesamiento; y f) una prolongación arbitraria de los ciclos de misión para aprovechar la renovación tecnológica que se produce año a año. El diseño, la verificación, las pruebas y la integración de las diferentes tecnologías involucradas en el Vuelo en Formación de satélites plantean, sin embargo, retos rigurosos para lograr el éxito de este tipo de misiones. Los subsistemas de navegación y control son dos de las tecnologías críticas que posibilitan la amplia gama de misiones científicas EO-FF DSS. Por lo tanto, es de suma importancia una evaluación del rendimiento de estas tecnologías en un entorno simulado durante cada una de las fases del desarrollo de la misión. Para ello, proponemos en este trabajo el diseño e implementación de un laboratorio terrestre, donde el usuario diseña, desarrolla y valida esos subsistemas. El usuario adopta una filosofía basada en modelos, que comprende una fase inicial en la que el diseñador propone un modelo de la planta a controlar. A partir de este modelo, el usuario realiza una exploración y propuesta de diferentes algoritmos de navegación y control. Una vez adoptados los algoritmos, la siguiente fase es la validación de los mismos a lazo cerrado. El siguiente paso, no considerado en este trabajo, se refiere a la validación de los subsistemas globales de navegación y control con hardware en el lazo, lo que posiblemente conduzca a ulteriores iteraciones sobre la fase inicial. La filosofía basada en modelos se apoya en una metodología de diseño de software orientada a objetos, ampliamente utilizada hoy en día para modelar y gestionar la complejidad del software de los sistemas espaciales.

Resumen: Las Redes de Sensores Inalámbricos han atraído gran atención en el mundo académico e industrial en los últimos 10 años debido a su uso en diversas aplicaciones de sensado, y control, ya sea en el ámbito doméstico, industrial o militar. Una red de sensores inalámbricos, más comúnmente denominada por su nombre en inglés Wireless Sensor Network (WSN), presenta desafíos complejos que deben ser inevitablemente abordados para lograr su adecuado funcionamiento. Entre ellos se encuentran el manejo de la energía, la sincronización de los nodos, la fiabilidad, la prevención de fallas, y las técnicas de procesamiento de la información. Esta tesis aborda estos problemas desde un punto de vista analítico, analizando los diferentes escenarios mediante herramientas matemáticas y proponiendo soluciones de relación de compromiso para que el diseñador de una WSN pueda tomar las decisiones adecuadas para la cumplir con los requisitos su aplicación.

Resumen: Los objetivos centrales del presente trabajo de investigación son la síntesis y caracterización de óxidos mixtos de CeO2 - ZrO2, y el estudio de la viabilidad de su uso como materiales de ánodo de celdas de combustible de óxido sólido (SOFC) que operen a temperaturas entre 600ºC y 800ºC. Se proponen como objetivos adicionales el estudio de las condiciones de síntesis y su influencia en las características morfológicas, redox y catalíticas de los materiales obtenidos, el estudio del desempeño electrocatalático en distintas atmósferas, y la construcción de una pequeña celda botón de dos cámaras con el material anódico seleccionado.
The main objectives of this research work are the synthesis and characterization of CeO2– ZrO2 mixed oxides and the study of the feasibility of their use as anode materials of solid oxide fuels cells (SOFCs) operated at temperatures between 600◦C and 800◦C. The study of the influence of the synthesis conditions on the morphological, redox and catalytic performance, the study of the electrocatalytic behavior in different atmospheres, and the construction of small dual-chamber button cells with one of the synthesized material selected to constitute the anode, are proposed as additional goals to achieve.
