Los lentes de contacto inteligentes prometen ser un reemplazo a los métodos convencionales de análisis sobre pacientes diabéticos, facilitando su evaluación y seguimiento. Sensando a partir del lagrimeo en vez de la sangre, es posible obtener datos en tiempo real sobre los niveles de glucosa de una persona. El objetivo de este trabajo se centra en el diseño de un sistema que permita brindar energía suficiente para el correcto funcionamiento, pero considerando las posibles injerencias que esto puede tener sobre el ojo humano. Se diseñan y analizan las antenas involucradas en la transmisión para alimentar al circuito de análisis y en la recepción ubicada en el lente de contacto. La potencia necesaria para activar los circuitos embebidos en el lente de contacto, pero sin superar los l ́ımites de radiación sobre el ojo minimizando las pérdidas en las antenas, serán los focos del trabajo.

En esta tesis se exponen los resultados de investigar y diseñar una propuesta experimental para controlar un sistema robótico móvil que pueda realizar interacciones con personas mediante el procesamiento de secuencias de imágenes. En primer lugar se investigaron so luciones, métodos y algoritmos existentes para diseñar la arquitectura del sistema mediante el uso e integración de diferentes modelos teóricos. Una vez modelado el problema y los escenarios de uso, se describen las decisiones de diseño de la estructura propuesta para una implementación particular. Para garantizar la factibilidad de la propuesta, se realizaron simulaciones, iteraciones en los modelos y experimentos dentro las condiciones de labora torio disponibles. La arquitectura propuesta en este trabajo involucra consideraciones en cuanto a métodos de exploración, navegación, mapeo y localización del robot referentes al estudio de la robótica probabilística móvil. Además, el trabajo presentado en esta tesis considera el modelado de ciertas formas de interacción humana con el robot mediante el procesamiento de secuencias de imágenes dentro de un flujo continuo de datos. Las señales modeladas en este trabajo fueron trabajadas desde las perspectivas de la teoría de filtros probabilísticos, aprendizaje de máquina, redes neuronales, procesamiento de imágenes y reconocimiento de patrones. Finalmente, también se presenta una implementación particular del sistema propuesto mediante el desarrollo iterativo de código en lenguajes de programación de acceso y uso libre y gratuito, considerando sensores y componentes reales que fueron probados de manera independiente e integrados a la arquitectura propuesta. Los resultados, propuestas futuras y conclusiones obtenidas durante el desarrollo de esta tesis se exponen hacia el final de este documento.

Se han utilizado diversos algoritmos de machine learning para la estimación de la permeabilidad equivalente en medios porosos artificiales a partir de indicadores de conectividad que surgen de la configuración geométrica de los mencionados medios. Se ha elegido abordar el problema desde una perspectiva del análisis masivo de datos que ha alcanzado un impulso notable en el último tiempo. El esquema de trabajo consta de tres etapas: la primera de ellas es la generación de la información, mediante la creación de los medios porosos artificiales y posterior simulación numérica de flujo, todo dentro del entorno de computación de alto desempeño (HPC). La segunda etapa consiste en el análisis exploratorio de la información obtenida, tanto de los indicadores de conectividad de los medios generados aleatoriamente como del valor de permeabilidad efectiva hallado por simulación numérica de flujo. Finalmente, la utilización de algoritmos de regresión que vinculen a los mencionados indicadores de conectividad con los resultados de la simulación numérica.

Las características microestructurales de las aleaciones de uso tecnológico dependen tanto de la composición química de la aleación como de la velocidad de solidificación de la técnica de obtención empleada. De forma tal que la hipótesis que dará marco al presente trabajo de investigación se resume en que el refinamiento de la microestructura de una aleación le confiere ciertas propiedades mecánicas y superficiales superiores a las de sus pares obtenidas por métodos convencionales. Por tanto, el objetivo general de este trabajo de tesis doctoral es analizar las características microestructurales de una serie de aleaciones livianas de interés tecnológico obtenidas mediante diferentes técnicas no convencionales de solidificación y determinar su posible aplicación como material de superficie. El desarrollo de aleaciones livianas, principalmente las nanoestructuradas de Al, con alta resistencia mecánica y buen comportamiento frente a la corrosión es de gran importancia en el campo de los materiales estructurales. Mediante las técnicas de Solidificación Rápida, como Melt Spinning, se puede obtener una gran variedad de “Aleaciones Nanoestructuradas”, cuyas características podrían mejorar notablemente su comportamiento mecánico. Así mismo la aplicación de técnicas superficiales de solidificación rápida, como las de Spray Térmico promueven la generación de recubrimientos conteniendo fases de características particulares como las cuasicristalinas que mejoran sus aptitudes como materiales de superficie. Este trabajo de tesis contribuye al desarrollo de nuevas aleaciones de alta resistencia mecánica específica para aplicaciones estructurales y de interés tribológico en diferentes industrias y es un aporte al conocimiento en el ámbito de la ciencia de materiales.
Microstructure of alloys for technological use depend of chemical composition and the solidification rate achieved during its elaboration. Hence hypothesis that will frame the present research can be summarized in that the refinement of the microstructure give it certain mechanical and surfaces properties different to those of their peers obtained by conventional solidification process. In order to this, general objective of present research is study microstructural features of light alloys series of technological interest. Alloys obtained through different unconventional solidification techniques and determine their possible application as a surface material. Development of light alloys, mainly nanostructured Aluminum alloys, with high mechanical resistance and good behavior against corrosion is of great importance in the field of structural materials. Rapid Solidification techniques, such as Melt Spinning, allow obtaining a wide variety of "Nanostructured Alloys", whose characteristics could significantly improve their mechanical behavior. Likewise, the application of rapid solidification surface techniques, for example Thermal Spray process, promotes the generation of coatings containing phases with particular characteristics such as quasicrystalline ones that improve their aptitudes as surface materials. This research work contributes to the development of new alloys with high specific mechanical resistance for structural applications and tribological interest in different industries. On the other hand, it`s a great contributions to the knowledge in the field of materials science.

La microfluídica es una disciplina en constante crecimiento que se enfoca en el estudio, manipulación y control de fluidos en canales de escalas micrométricas. Gracias a las características únicas de los fluidos en estas pequeñas escalas y al avance constante de esta disciplina, en los últimos años se han podido diseñar y fabricar dispositivos de alto impacto en áreas de la medicina, la biotecnología, y la química. De manera general, la manipulación y control de estos dispositivos puede llevarse a cabo mediante dos métodos bien diferenciados: los activos, que requieren energía externa para funcionar, y los pasivos que no la necesitan. Debido a la complejidad que implica el uso de métodos activos, los métodos pasivos han ganado relevancia en diversas aplicaciones, especialmente en aquellas donde la simplicidad es un requerimiento de diseño. En ese sentido, diversos son los mecanismos que pueden ser empleados para impulsar los fluidos en dichos dispositivos. Sin embargo, en este trabajo haremos especial foco en la microfluídica capilar como mecanismo de impulsión y estudiaremos en detalle el llenado capilar de dispositivos basados en microcanales de secciones rectangulares con paredes rugosas y disímiles. En la primera parte de en este trabajo, proporcionaremos al lector una introducción general a la microfluídica, su historia, aplicaciones y los mecanismos utilizados para propulsar los fluidos en dichos dispositivos, con especial atención en los sistemas pasivos y el uso de la microfluídica capilar en microcanales. También, y con la finalidad de establecer las bases matemáticas y físicas de nuestro estudio presentaremos las bases teóricas del llenado capilar en microcanales, incluyendo una ecuación general que nos permitirá modelar la dinámica del llenado capilar. Luego, haremos especial foco en el estudio de la dinámica del llenado capilar en microcanales rectangulares con paredes de diferentes materiales y rugosidades. Para ello, presentaremos un modelo que nos permitirá mejorar la capacidad predictiva frente a los tradicionalmente utilizados que no contemplan defectos superficiales, rugosidades, y ángulos dependientes de la velocidad de avance. Por otro lado, y en vistas de desarrollar mejores herramientas de diseño, presentaremos un novedoso método basado en algoritmos genéticos y una herramienta numérica unidimensional especialmente desarrollada en Matlab Simulink para simular la dinámica de llenado capilar en redes complejas de microcanales abordando el problema de diseño inverso en dichas geometrías. Por último, presentaremos un estudio experimental desarrollado alrededor del llenado capilar en curvas y bifurcaciones con la finalidad de obtener mejores herramientas para el prototipado y diseño rápido.

En esta tesis se busca caracterizar un material tricapa desconocido. Para ello es necesario reconocer el material que compone a cada capa y localizar los puntos de contacto entre cada par de materiales consecutivos. Con esta finalidad, se expone al material a un proceso estacionario, unidimensional, simple y no invasivo de transferencia de calor. Se considera una barra embebida en un fluido (líquido o gaseoso) compuesta por tres segmentos consecutivos con dos interfaces de tipo sólido-sólido, donde cada tramo corresponde a un material isótropo y homogéneo. En el borde izquierdo se impone una condición de tipo Dirichlet que indica temperatura constante y en el derecho de tipo Robin para modelar el fenómeno de convección. Hallar una solución a este tipo de problemas, conociendo todos los parámetros del modelo y las condiciones de borde, se lo denomina problema directo. En este trabajo se obtienen las soluciones analíticas explicitas mediante técnicas de Fourier. Las soluciones son incluidas en esta tesis con el fin de presentar un trabajo autocontenido. Para determinar el material tricapa desconocido, obtener una caracterización matemática más precisa del fenómeno estudiado y desarrollar criterios que mejoren las técnicas de medición; se puede recurrir a la estimación de parámetros del modelo. Éstos son denominados problemas inversos y se encuentran relacionados con el problema directo. En esta tesis se tratan dos problemas inversos. El primer problema inverso consiste en la localización simultánea de los dos puntos de contacto entre cada par de materiales. Para ello se utilizan dos mediciones de temperatura, una en la mitad de la barra y otra en el extremo derecho de la misma. El segundo problema inverso consiste en la determinación de los materiales que componen la barra, a partir de la estimación de las conductividades térmicas de cada material. Dichos parámetros se obtienen utilizando tres mediciones de temperatura, una en cada interfaz y otra en el borde derecho de la barra. Ambos problemas se resuelven analíticamente y se da una cota para el error cometido en la aproximación de cada parámetro. Además, se realiza un análisis de elasticidad para conocer la dependencia local de cada parámetro estimado con los datos utilizados.
In this thesis we seek to characterize an unknown three-layer material. To do this, it is necessary to recognize the material that makes up each layer and locate the contact points between each pair of consecutive materials. For this purpose, the material is exposed to a stationary, one-dimensional, simple and non-invasive process of heat transfer. It is considered a bar embedded in a fluid (liquid or gas) is considered to be composed of three consecutive segments with two solid-solid type interfaces, where each section corresponds to an isotropic and homogeneous material. On the left edge, a Dirichlet-type condition is imposed, indicating constant temperature, and on the right, a Robin-type condition to model the convection phenomenon. Finding a solution to this type of problem, knowing all the parameters of the model and the boundary conditions, is called a forward problem. In this work, explicit analytical solutions are obtained using Fourier techniques. The solutions are included in this thesis in order to present a self-contained work. To determine the unknown three-layer material, obtain a more precise mathematical characterization of the phenomenon studied and develop criteria that improve measurement techniques; the estimation of model parameters can be performed. These are called inverse problems and are related to the forward problem. Two inverse problems are dealt with in this thesis. The first inverse problem consists of the simultaneous location of the two points of contact between each pair of materials. To do this, two temperature measurements are used, one in the middle of the bar and another at the right end of it. The second inverse problem consists of determining the materials that make up the bar, based on the estimation of the thermal conductivities of each material. These parameters are obtained using three temperature measurements, one at each interface and another at the right edge of the bar. Both problems are solved analytically and a bound is given for the error made in the approximation of each parameter. In addition, an elasticity analysis is performed to find out the local dependence of each parameter estimated with the data used.

El objetivo de la presente tesis es desarrollar un marco de simulación dinámica para dispositivos electroquímicos basado en la escala del continuo que permita ganar acceso a los procesos fundamentales de electrodo y de transporte de especies dentro de los dispositivos de almacenamiento y conversión de energía electroquímicos. En primer lugar se desarrolla un modelo electroquímico y basado en fenómenos físicos para el ánodo de una celda de combustible de hidrógeno, y se estudia el fenómeno de las oscilaciones sostenidas en el potencial bajo contaminación con monóxido de carbono. Dentro del modelo se incluye una ecuación que modela la energía de interacción dipolo dipolo en la superficie del electrodo capaz de modelar la presencia de múltiples especies dipolares. El modelo es capaz de ajustar en forma cualitativa a resultados experimentales de bibliografía sin la realización de un ajuste empírico de los parámetros. Se estudia la sensibilidad del mismo ante la variación de los parámetros cinéticos y a la variación en la concentración de monóxido de carbono en la alimentación de hidrógeno. Se realiza además el acople entre un modelo simplificado de ánodo obtenido de bibliografía y un modelo completo 1D de celda de combustible, y se estudian las condiciones bajo las cuales se produce el fenómeno de oscilaciones sostenidas. En segundo lugar se desarrolla un modelo pseudo-bidimensional para el modelado de una celda cilíndrica de litio-ion incorporando ecuaciones térmicas. Se incorpora al modelo dinámico una cantidad variable de puntos para el modelado de la generación de calor dentro de la celda, y se estudia la cantidad óptima de puntos en términos de obtención de perfiles de temperatura y reproducción de las condiciones experimentales en función de la potencia de cálculo requerida, para una tasa de descarga baja a moderada. En tercer lugar se desarrolla un modelo electroquímico para la descarga del cátodo de una batería de litio-azufre utilizando el mecanismo de cuasi-estado sólido. El modelo es capaz de ajustar cuantitativamente a datos experimentales obtenidos en el marco del trabajo, así como producir la composición variable de especies de azufre dentro del poro a lo largo de la descarga. Se estudia el mecanismo para hallar las características del paso determinante de la reaccionó. Se realiza luego un análisis de sensibilidad paramétrico y se encuentran los parámetros con mayor efecto sobre el comportamiento del sistema
The aim of the present thesis is to develop a framework for the continuum-scale dynamic simulation of electrochemical devices. This framework allows for access to fundamental electrodic processes and species transport within electrochemical devices for energy storage and conversion. First, an electrochemical model based on physical principles is developed for the anode of a hydrogen fuel cell. For this model, an equation is developed for the dipole-dipole interaction energy for molecules on the electrode surface, in the presence of multiple dipolar species. The model is applied to the fenomenon of sustained oscillations in the electrode potential under carbon monoxide poisoning. The model is able to qualitatively reproduce experimental results from bibliography without the need for an empirical parameter fit. Model sensitivity is studied for kinetic parameters and monoxide concentration in the hydrogen feed. Finally, a simplified anode model is coupled with a 1D fuel cell model in order to study the conditions under which sustained oscillations occur. Secondly, a pseudo-bidimensional model is developed for a cylindrical lithium-ion battery with thermal effects. A variable amount of modelling points for the coupling of electrochemical and thermal models. The optimal amount of modelling points is studied in terms of experimental discharge curve reproduction, temperature and thermal generation profiles as a function of processing power required for the simulation. Thirdly, an electrochemical model is developed for the discharge of the cathode of a lithium-sulfur battery under the quasi-solid-state mechanism. The model is able to quantitatively adjust to experimental results, and is able to the variable composition of sulfur-containing species in the cathode pore during discharge. The discharge mechanism is studied in order to obtain the characteristics of the rate determining step. A sensitivity analysis is performed in order to determine which parameters have a greater effect on the system behavior.
