El uso de dosímetros en tratamientos de radioterapia para control de dosis absorbida es fuertemente recomendado, pues permite asegurar la calidad del tratamiento y aportar seguridad a los pacientes. En este trabajo se presenta el desarrollo, construcción y validación de un sistema de medición de dosímetros MOS utilizando un efecto físico denominado neutralización de carga inducida por radiación (RICN). Esta propuesta presenta una innovación ya que habitualmente los sensores MOS se usan aprovechando el fenómeno de captura de carga. El proceso de RICN requiere que los dosímetros reciban una irradiación inicial para acumular carga en el óxido que luego será neutralizada en las sucesivas irradiaciones como dosímetro. El objetivo de la tesis es evaluar el desempeño de este método en la determinación de dosis. Para esto se diseña e implementa un equipo lector de dosímetros MOS que, calibración mediante, permite obtener la dosis y la temperatura del sensor. Se realizan pruebas exponiendo los sensores a radiación ionizante y midiéndolos con el equipo desarrollado. Se analizan las mediciones evaluando el efecto de la temperatura y del fading. Este último es un proceso físico mediante el cual la carga atrapada se neutraliza en ausencia de radiación y por lo tanto requiere especial atención porque puede afectar la estimación de la dosis. Se calibra un dosímetro utilizando radiación gamma de una unidad de telecobaltorerapia Teradi 800 obteniéndose una sensibilidad promedio de 1,86 mV/cGy y observando un comportamiento lineal en un rango de 17 Gy. La incerteza de medición se estima en 12,4 cGy. Como resultado del estudio se proponen una serie de recomendaciones de uso y una técnica para reducir la dispersión en las mediciones producto del fading. Un dosímetro MOS es un transistor MOS cuyo desplazamiento de la tensión umbral VT se utiliza para estimar la dosis absorbida de radiación ionizante. El valor de la tensión umbral también depende de la temperatura, por lo tanto la variación de la temperatura introduce un error en la medición de la dosis. Diferentes técnicas de mitigación del error por temperatura, entre ellas la del mínimo coeficiente térmico (ZTC), suponen una característica térmica del dosímetro MOS invariante con la dosis de irradiación acumulada. En el presente trabajo de tesis se estudio la influencia de la radiación ionizante sobre los parámetros térmicos de un dosímetro MOS de canal n fabricado con un aislante de compuerta de oxido de campo (FOXFET). Para ello se caracterizo el dosímetro para diferentes temperaturas utilizando un controlador de temperatura diseñado especialmente para este trabajo. De las características se obtuvieron los parámetros del transistor MOS, entre ellos la tensión umbral VT , el coeficiente térmico de la tensión umbral 0T , la movilidad μ y la corriente de mínimo coeficiente térmico IZTC. Seguidamente se sometió al dosímetro a diferentes dosis de irradiación y se analizo el comportamiento de dichos parámetros con la dosis acumulada y el tiempo transcurrido luego de la irradiación. Los resultados experimentales muestran un aumento del valor absoluto de ØT y un aumento de la corriente IZTC con la acumulación de dosis. Estos cambios se relacionaron con la creación de estados de interfaz y fueron explicados mediante modelos teóricos basados en trabajos previos en la literatura. Finalmente se propone una expresión para predecir el valor de IZTC dada la variación de la densidad de estados de interfaz ΔNit. Facultad de Ingeniería Abstract A summary of the resource. En el control de la polarización los materiales uniaxiales son extensamente utilizados, ya sea como polarizadores o retardadores. Hemos desarrollado esta Tesis a partir del estudio teórico de medios uniaxiales, haciendo énfasis en las características de retardo. En particular, se han estudiado los retardadores mediante el desfasaje que éstos introducen. Para esto hemos analizado distintas configuraciones en reexión y en transmisión, tanto en forma teórica como experimental. Como herramientas de análisis y caracterización hemos propuesto el estudio de patrones de interferencia. Este estudio ha dado lugar a la aplicación de distintas técnicas de interferometría y se han propuesto implementaciones innovadoras. Entre los resultados más relevantes que esta Tesis proporciona se encuentran fórmulas explícitas del desfasaje en medios uniaxiales que son deducidas en forma analítica a partir de las Ecuaciones de Maxwell, sin restricciones a casos particulares. Este resultado nos ha permitido estudiar componentes importantes para el control de la polarización como las láminas retardadoras, brindándonos herramientas para analizar su desempeño como retardadores así como imperfecciones de fabricación. Por otro lado, la generalidad de los resultados obtenidos nos permite no sólo el estudio de láminas retardadoras sino que también el de cristales uniaxiales, con distintos clivajes y cortes, a partir de patrones de interferencia conoscópicos. De este modo, los resultados teóricos y experimentales permiten estudiar a los cristales o a los retardadores y caracterizarlos ópticamente así como obtener sus características de retardo. Las características de retardo que estudiamos las hemos aplicado para desarrollar herramientas de interferometría. Esto ha dado lugar, por un lado, a un simple introductor secuencial de desfasajes que utilizamos en técnicas de interferometría por saltos de fase como desfasador, y por otro lado, a un analizador de fase birrefringente que permite medir desfasajes. Las herramientas que hemos desarrollado en esta Tesis, se utilizaron para caracterizar experimentalmente a cristales uniaxiales y a dispositivos retardadores comerciales. Uniaxial crystals are widely used in polarization control, either as polarizers or retarders. This work is mainly focused on the retardance characteristics associated to uniaxial crystals. We study retarders by means of the phase shift they introduce. In order to do so, we theoretically and experimentally analyze diferent reection and transmission setups. We propose the study of fringe patterns as tools of analysis and characterization of birefringent retarders and uniaxial crystals. Moreover, we apply diferent interferometric techniques according to the characteristics of the patterns. This study has led us to implement novel techniques. Among the most relevant results this Thesis others, we can nd explicit formulae for the phase shift in uniaxial media. These expressions are analytically deduced from Maxwell Equations, with no limits on the optical axis orientation, direction of incidence, or level of birefringence. This result allowed us to study important components for the control of polarization, such as wave plates. We developed tools to analyze their performance as retarders, and _nd manufacturing imperfections. Moreover, the generality of the results obtained allows us not only to study retarder plates, but also the retarding characteristics of uniaxial crystals with diferent cleavages and cuts. We show how to characterize both wave plates and anisotropic crystals by means of theoretical and experimental analysis of conoscopic interference patterns. The retardance characteristics studied were used to develop a simple phase shifter, which was applied in phase shifting interferometry techniques. We also designed a birefringent phase analyzer that measures phase shifts. These techniques were used to experimentally characterize uniaxial crystals and commercial retarders. En esta tesis se estudió y desarrolló un sistema de detección apto para tomografía optoacústica bidimensional que ha logrado gran relevancia dentro del área de imágenes biomédicas. En esta técnica el objeto bajo estudio es iluminado por un láser que emite pulsos de luz monocromática de baja energía (en el rango de microJoules) con una duración típica de algunos nanosegundos. Los perfiles de presión generados por la excitación óptica son captados por un arreglo de sensores o un sensor junto a un sistema de traslación que le permite barrer la zona de interés. Todo esquema basado en la técnica optoacústica se encuentra formado por tres partes esenciales: una fuente de excitación lumínica, un sistema de detección para la captura de las señales ultrasónicas y un sistema de procesamiento de los datos para la obtención de la imagen. Esta tesis se focalizó en la segunda de ellas, lo que involucró la construcción de detectores piezoeléctricos de banda ancha basados en polímeros y la implementación de un esquema tomográfico para la obtención de imágenes. Para esto, se realizaron mediciones eléctricas y ultrasónicas para caracterizar los sensores y validar el método de fabricación. También, se hicieron un conjunto de mediciones sobre el sistema de captación para determinar sus parámetros característicos como el ancho de banda, el ruido, sensibilidad, fluencia láser mínima, apertura del sensor y resolución. Los resultados obtenidos en esta tesis permitirán establecer los criterios para el diseño de algoritmos de reconstrucción para la obtención de imágenes optoacústicas bidimensionales.
