La producción de cerdos es explotada en todo el mundo, en los países cuya religión y cultura lo permiten. Los efectos de la producción intensiva se magnifican debido a los crecientes volúmenes de estiércol, la proliferación de vectores, la emisión de olores desagradables y la contaminación de los recursos naturales. El manejo de efluente de cerdo, desde el momento en que se generan hasta su valorización o destrucción, debe ser controlada para minimizar los riesgos a la salud humana, animal y la contaminación ambiental. La inclusión de la digestión anaeróbica en la estrategia de tratamiento de este tipo de efluente reporta ventajas como: evitar emisiones de compuestos orgánicos volátiles, controlar los olores, mineralizar nutrientes, eliminar patógenos y recuperar energía a través del metano generado. El objetivo de este proyecto de investigación fue evaluar el proceso anaeróbico de un reactor a escala piloto, alimentado diariamente con efluentes de cerdo. Para hacer esto, se determinaron parámetros fisicoquímicos, ecotoxicológicos y microbiológicos en el efluente crudo de cerdo y en el digestato, durante la puesta en marcha y en la etapa estable. La producción de biogás se determinó diariamente mediante el uso de un gasómetro de desplazamiento líquido y la concentración de metano se midió usando cromatografía de gases. El pH del efluente crudo se mantuvo en 7.2 y el digerido se estabilizó en 7.9. Para esta investigación, el pH no se consideró una buena variable de control, debido a que efluentes con altas concentraciones de alcalinidad, provocan tiempos de reacción demasiado lentos para controlar el sistema. En la etapa estable, hubo una disminución del 66% y 56%, en los parámetros de remoción para SV y para DQO respectivamente, que coincidió con el aumento en la concentración de FAN (57%) y AGV (92%) dentro del reactor, siendo estos últimos dos compuestos inhibidores del proceso cuando se encuentran en altas concentraciones. La producción de biogás fue de 67.23 L/día con 73% de metano, la eliminación de patógenos fue eficiente y los bioensayos ecotoxicológicos mostraron alta toxicidad tanto del efluente crudo como del digerido. Los resultados mostraron que el reactor presentó una buena performance en el inicio del proceso, sin embargo, disminuyo la carga orgánica diaria debido a fenómenos de inestabilidad ocurridos cuando la concentración de amonio dentro del reactor aumento. Por otro lado, la calidad final del digerido con respecto a los parámetros fisicoquímicos y ecotoxicológicos demuestra la necesidad de realizar un post tratamiento previo a su vuelco al ambiente. Swine production is exploited all over the world, in countries its religion and culture allow it. The effects of the intensive production are magnified by the increasing volumes of manure, vectors proliferation, unpleasant odors emissions and natural resources pollution. The management of pig slurry, from its generation to their valorization or destruction, must be controlled to minimize the risks to human and animal health, as well as environmental pollution. For pig slurries, the inclusion of anaerobic digestion in the treatment strategy provides some advantages: reduction of volatile organic compound emissions, odors control, nutrients mineralization, reduction of pathogens content and energy recovery through methane generation. The aim of this research was to evaluate the anaerobic process of a pilot-scale reactor, fed daily with swine slurries. To this purpose physical-chemical, ecotoxicological and microorganism’s parameters were determined in raw pig slurry as well as in the digestate, during the startup and in the steady state stage. Biogas production was determined daily by mean of liquid displacement gasometers. Methane concentration was measured using gas chromatography. The pH of the raw effluent ranged around 7.2 and the digestate was stabilized at 7.9. For this research, the pH was not considered a good control variable, because reaction times were too slow to provide a good process control. In the steady state stage, there was a decrease in the removal parameters of 66% and 56% respectively for SV and DQO coincidentally with an increase in the FAN (57%) and AGV (92%) concentrations within the reactor, being these parameters inhibitors of the process. The production of biogas was 67.23 L/days with 73% methane content, the removal of pathogens was efficient and the ecotoxicological bioassays showed high toxicity for both the raw effluent and the digestate. The results showed that the reactor presented a satisfactory performance at the beginning of the process, however, it was required to decrease the daily organic load due to instability phenomena occurred when the concentration of ammonium within the reactor increased. El software desarrollado permite verificar la calidad requerida para la aceptación del cargamento o, en caso de detectar algún defecto, contar con la información necesaria para establecer los términos de aceptación o bien determinar su rechazo. Para su implementación fueron fundamentales conocimientos tales como los conceptos de detección de objetos, clasificación y métricas de predicción en modelos de aprendizaje de máquina.
