El mantenimiento, la reparación y el refuerzo de estructuras de hormigón es una creciente actividad de la industria de la construcción. Aun así, tanto los profesionales como la industria de las reparaciones en general, no cuentan con un procedimiento para la selección del material más adecuado entre los muchos que se encuentran disponibles en el mercado, ni existe un consenso en la forma de evaluarlos. En el presente trabajo se desarrolló un protocolo de base prestacional para la evaluación y la selección de morteros técnicos cementíceos como solución a dicho problema. El protocolo plantea las siguientes acciones: • en primer lugar, se propone una preselección del material más adecuado para una aplicación dada, partiendo de los requisitos funcionales y de las necesidades del cliente. De esta forma, se establecen los criterios más relevantes y los requerimientos mínimos del material. • en segundo lugar, se propone comparar distintos productos utilizando las fichas técnicas o, si es posible, realizando pruebas en laboratorio para evaluar su desempeño y llevar a cabo la selección. Para ello, se realiza un análisis multicriterio, utilizando el método de jerarquía analítica (AHP), desarrollado por Thomas L. Saaty en la década de 1970. • Por último, se presenta un gráfico que pretende ser una referencia para el profesional a cargo de la reparación, para controlar durante la colocación, aquellas propiedades y condiciones de obra que mayor incidencia tienen en el desempeño final del material. La evaluación de los materiales se realizó siguiendo las normas IRAM 1715 y 1716. Asimismo, con el fin de conocer con mayor profundidad la aptitud del material tanto en laboratorio como en obra, se propusieron otros métodos de ensayo para estudiar la variación volumétrica, la adherencia, la compatibilidad mecánica y la robustez. Dichos métodos resultaron ser aptos y repetibles con pocos recursos. El presente trabajo muestra que el empleo del protocolo es muy útil y de fácil aplicación, y que la evaluación de los materiales en laboratorio previo a su aplicación es de gran importancia para ratificar la información otorgada por los fabricantes, al tiempo que permite identificar aquellas condiciones a controlar en el momento de la colocación, ya que pueden afectar notablemente el desempeño de los mismos y por ende, la efectividad de la reparación. The maintenance, repair and strengthening of concrete structures has become a growing activity in the construction industry. However, there is no guidance for professionals and the repair industry in general on the selection of the optimal material from the wide range available on the market, nor is there a consensus on a method to evaluate them. In the current work a performance-based protocol was developed to evaluate and select a technical cement-based mortar as a solution to this problem. The protocol calls for the following actions: • First, a pre-selection of the most appropriate material for a given application is proposed, considering the functional requirements and the customer needs. Thereby, the most important criteria and the minimal requirements are defined. • Second, a comparison is made between different products based on the product specifications presented by the manufacturer or, if it is possible, the result of performance evaluations in the laboratory. To solve this multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) problem, the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) is applied. This method is a tool designed by Thomas L. Saaty, in the 1970s. • Finally, the protocol presents a graphic which is intended to be a refence for the professional responsible for the repair, to enable them to monitor the properties and building conditions which have the greatest impact on the final performance of the material. The material evaluation was made following IRAM 1715 and 1716. In order to gain an in depth understanding of the suitability of the material, both in the laboratory and on site, ranges of requirements and test methods are suggested to study the volume change, bond strength, mechanical compatibility and robustness. These methods proved to be suitable and repeatable, requiring few resources. The current work shows that the protocol is extremely useful and easy to apply and that the evaluation of the materials in the laboratory prior to their application is very important to verify the product specifications presented by manufacturer while also identifying the properties and building conditions to monitor at the time of the placement which could significantly affect the performance of the materials and therefore the effectiveness of the repair.
